Using MD 2008 deploying a captured Vista SP1 image using Johan's updated
capture only sequence.

I am using 32 bit WAIK on a 32 bit Windows 2003 R2 server. I cannot seem to
create a catalog for my captured wim. I get a thrown exeception when it
tries to create the file. Could it be that the /flags is not set properly
for the WIM file? Is there a way to fake out MD 2008 to use another catalog
without having to create it? I tried copying over the one from the DVD and
renaming to the name of the wim, but it still wants to create a stupid
catalog. Any troublshooting steps appreciated. thanks

I updated the script and TS quite recently to set the image flag as
part of the capture (can be set afterwards as well). Are you using the
latest version?

Yes I did get the updated version you created, thanks! I did some more
troublshooting and found that if (outside of MD 2008) I use Windows System
Image Manager it creates the catalog gets created successfully and from
there I tie into the unattend.xml file in the Task sequence and things work
fine. It is just when I click "edit unattend.xml" inside of MD 2008 that it
fails. Weird, but at least I have a workaround. This does lead me to
another question though.

Knowing the problem creating the catalog inside of MD 2008, I was wondering
why even go through the trouble if all I am doing is updating the thick
image. Why should I have to create a new catalog with the pains involved if
everything is the same <except> say installing the latest patches? Here is
my idea. If I have a task sequence orginally called "A" that points to an
OS called "A", why couldn't I create a new captured wim, call it "B" and
modify the "A" tasksequence to install OS "B" (install from). Would there be
any problem doing that? Another idea I have it to create a new captured wim
and call it the exact same name and overwrite the "A" OS used by the "A"
task sequence? I have done both and it seems to work fine, but wondered if
I am covering up something that might bite me later. Thanks for reading my
ramblings!

You can easily change what OS a specific TS is going to deploy...
