Discussion:
Boot image problem with Dell GX270

Just started using WDS, native mode. I can PXE boot many of the Dell models
we have - GX260, GX280, 620, 745, and 755. And, when I try to PXE boot on a
GX270, as a create image mode, I still can. When I try to deploy with PXE,
though, the video is crap (low definition, low color) on GX260, but when I
try on a GX270, I get crappy video (looks like mountains in background), and
then a box pops up, all I have is black in the box, and an OK button. There
doesn't seem to be anything in the box that will highlight or show. I
suspect that the video drivers are the start of the problem, but how do I
update them in the boot image? The base image was "boot.wim" from Vista
deployment.
Any tips on updating video drivers in the boot WIN images? Or, does someone
have one that works? I can create the deployment images, and copy them up,
just the one model of Dell I cannot copy down to, as something is wrong.

Thanks for any assistance
Randy

The KB article below was written to address adding NIC drivers into
boot.wim but the same procedure would apply to video.

Error message when you start a PXE client to connect to a WDS server on a
Windows Server 2003 SP1-based computer: "WdsClient: An error occurred while
starting networking"

Tried adding NIC and video drivers - I still get a black box with only an
"OK" button. Shift-F10 seems to do nothing. Any way to tell what the
error, or message is? This does work fine on a older model, and all newer
Dells. Burning up my brain on this - even Google doesn't help.

Sorry, but this can be dropped. I found out one of the memory sticks was
bad. Simple things screw up easily - and then I look dumb. I know it takes
near 512 Meg RAM.
