I have installed Vista SP1, MS Office 2K7, Lotus Notes 6.5 (<-- not by
choice), an MRP Application, etc... onto a computer. I have set all of the
shortcuts that need to appear onto the desktop for all users. After testing
that all applications work properly, I run the SYSPREP tool. Image the
computer with ImageX, deploy the image to a different computer, and when i
log onto the computer, the Shortcuts are no longer on the desktop. When I
click on the Vista Start button -> All Programs, the programs that I have
installed are not listed. BUT - If I go into the C:\Program Files\ I can see
where the applications I have installed reside. I have repeated the process
a few times, and have tried different SYSPREP options (GUI version) each
time. Is there something I am doing incorrectly, or should be doing
differently?

I should tell you we are not currently using SMS/SCCM. I am using MDT 2K7,
WAIK 1.1, etc.. as needed to deploy/create an image, Win 2K3 Domain, .

If it is best to have an .MSI created for each aplication, and deploy it
through GPO, I can learn that process using 2003 Domain.

In the past with XP SP2, the account/profile that you were logged on with
was automatically copied to overwrite default user.
This changed with SP3, need a a setting in sysprep.inf to do that. Your
question is regarding Vista where a setting is required in unattend.xml
called "CopyProfile".
This will copy the majority of attributes so that new users will recieve
shortcuts etc.

The value will be true or false on whether to copy thr profile or not

Okay, I thought I had tried that, but I will doublecheck my unattend.xml and
try it again. Thanks for the heads up.

Additional thought. I may have seen in the past that accounts created
through OOBE do not inherit the properties set by CopyProfile settings.
Therefore, when you perform your test, please ensure that you are creating
a new account within Windows or logging on with a domain account. This
should validate whether CopyProfile is working or not.
