Desktop shortcuts not working properly

I have users with Office Pro or Office Std installed on their assigned
computers. Desktop folder redirection is employed. When a user tries to log
on to another computer that has a different version of Office installed and
use
the shortcut, they receive an error message that Office is not installed.
I thought the shortcuts would point to the executable in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XXX.exe, but the target only shows Office
Standard, or Office Professional and is grayed out.

Any idea how to allow them to create their shortcuts to path straight to the
executable?? Or where the registry guid might be which can be changed to
allow it?

Reply to my own post to expand on configuration:
All computers are running XP Pro SP3, most have Office 2007 (Either Pro or
Std, depending on their needs). A few (very few) still have Office 2003. All
versions are having the same issue.

Office does not create desktop shortcuts. I believe for this very reason. If you
insist on desktop shortcuts you will have this sort of issue to deal with. Bite
the bullet and get people used to the Start menu. You may get there in 20 years
<grin>. Seriously though desktop shortcuts were dropped so long ago I have
forgotten when it was.

Where I work, if there is not a desktop icon for a program then the program
must not be installed. ;)
